Care Homes in Oxfordshire

There are over 100 Care Homes in Oxfordshire. Some, but not all, provide Nursing Care. Some are registered to look after residents who have dementia, some are not. A small number of homes specialise in dementia care.

Finding Out about Care Homes

There are a number of ways to find out about Care Homes in Oxfordshire:

  • Speak to the Community Psychiatric Nurse, or an Alzheimer's Society or Clive Project support worker: they are likely to know which care homes in your locality specialise in dementia care.
  • Care in Oxfordshire is a Guide to Care Homes, Nursing Homes, and Providers of Home Care in Oxfordshire, published yearly. The book, which is well worth getting hold of, is available free by ringing 01865 777701. Some of the information is also available on the Care in Oxfordshire website.

  • If you are looking for a care home or a respite home, you can visit Oxfordshire County Council's Care Home Vacancy Information website. This website allows you to search all care homes in Oxfordshire for older people and adults with a physical disability, and gives more detail about the home and the type of care provided. It also gives information about whether the home has any vacancies and provides contact details. You can create and print a personalised information pack which includes information specific to your requirements.

The Relatives & Residents Association is a national organisation working to promote the well-being of older residents of care homes through:

  • Working with local relatives & residents groups in care homes

Independent Financial Advice About Funding Care

The NHFA (formerly the Nursing Home Fees Agency) provides older people, carers, and the general public with advice and information on obtaining and paying for care. Combines financial advice with complexities of local authority charging procedures, health authority responsibilities, DWP benefit entitlement, and relevant legal matters.
