Future Care Options - Younger People

Thinking it Over

If possible, it is usually best to consider possible options for future care well in advance. This may allow the person with dementia to be involved in discussion about this, avoiding misunderstandings at a later date. Having options thought out well in advance also helps to avoid the situation that care has to be decided hurriedly, in a crisis situation.

Care at Home

In Oxfordshire a range of agencies exist who can offer care provision in your own home. This ranges from help with household tasks like ironing and gardening, through regular visits giving assistance with meals and dressing, to agencies who can provide full-time live-in carers. More details are available in our Help at Home section.

Care Homes for Younger People with Dementia

Currently in Oxfordshire there is no specialist care home specifically for Younger People who have dementia. However there are specialist dementia care homes within the county who are open to younger as well as older residents. Younger people may be more physically fit than older people, so do ask whether or not the care home has an open door policy and secure grounds.

More Information can be found in our Care Homes section.

The Clive Home Project

The Clive Project is working with partner organisations, and local health and social care commissioners, to develop the design and funding of a specialist resource offering long-term and respite care for younger people with dementia in Oxfordshire. A number of leads have been followed up, and new options are still emerging. The Clive Project is determined that this is a development they will achieve however long it takes.
